THE SAHABA'S IMMENSE LOVE FOR THE PROPHET

                          AN EVERYDAY ARTICLE

                    SAHABAS LOVE FOR THE PROPHET
1. NECESSITY OF LOVING THE PROPHET (S.A.W)

.
{Say, [to them O Muhammad that:], “If your fathers, your sons, your brothers, your wives, your relatives, wealth which you have obtained, commerce  wherein you fear decline, and dwellings (household) with which you are pleased are more beloved to you than Allah and His Messenger and jihad in His cause, then wait until Allah executes His command. And Allah does not guide the defiantly disobedient people}
[Al-Tawbah 9:24]
.
Al-Qadi ‘Iyaad [May Allah shower him with mercy] said commenting on this verse:
“Sufficient should that be as a motivation and a warning, a sign and a proof of the obligation of his love, the great danger of [neglecting] it, and how he rightfully deserves this love from us – Prayers of Allah and Peace upon him; since Allah – the Exalted – strongly reprimanded those whose wealth, family, and children were more beloved to him than Allah and His Messenger, and warned them [by saying]: {then wait until Allah executes His command}, then He declared them defiantly disobedient at the end of the verse, and informed them that they are from among those who have gone astray and are not guided by Allah”

[Al-Shifaa” 2/563]

Allah's Apostle  said, "By Him in Whose Hands my life is, none of you will have faith till he loves me more than his father and his children."

[Hadith - Bukhari 1:13]

Narated By Anas : The Prophet said, "Whoever possesses the following three qualities will have the sweetness (delight) of faith:

1. The one to whom Allah and His Apostle becomes dearer than anything else.

2. Who loves a person and he loves him only for Allah's sake.
3. Who hates to revert to Atheism (disbelief) as he hates to be thrown into the fire."

[Bukhari Volume 001, Book 002, Hadith Number 015]

Narrated By 'Abdullah bin Hisham : We were with the Prophet and he was holding the hand of 'Umar bin Al-Khattab. 'Umar said to Him, "O Allah's Apostle! You are dearer to me than everything except my own self." The Prophet said, "No, by Him in Whose Hand my soul is, (you will not have complete faith) till I am dearer to you than your own self." Then 'Umar said to him, "However, now, by Allah, you are dearer to me than my own self." The Prophet said, "Now, O 'Umar, (now you are a believer)."

[Bukhari Volume 008, Book 078, Hadith Number 628]

Narrated 'Umar bin Al-Khattab: During the lifetime of the Prophet there was a man called 'Abdullah whose nickname was Donkey, and he used to make Allah's Apostle laugh. The Prophet lashed him because of drinking (alcohol). And one-day he was brought to the Prophet on the same charge and was lashed. On that, a man among the people said, "O Allah, curse him ! How frequently he has been brought (to the Prophet on such a charge)!" The Prophet said, "Do not curse him, for by Allah, I know for he loves Allah and His Apostle."

[Sahih Bukhari, Volume 8, Book 81, Number 771]

The above Hukum of rasool (s.a.w) has been fulfilled in the best of ways by the SAHABA . I have collected only a few examples to illustrate the immense love the SAHABA showed for the prophet (s.a.w). There are tons and tons of reports, however , i have collected only a few ahadeeth to shed some light and give a brief insight to this beautiful topic. Please note that some narrations may be weak due to their isnaad and etc, however, the love the SAHABA had for the prophet (s.a.w) is unmatched until Qiyamah In sha Allah, and we have thousands of books authored on this topic. Hence even if a narration is da'eef, read it for knowledge and contemplate on it.

Another will be available tomorrow......
